Yet making a tangible difference to the lives and incomes of our coffee farmers, especially women, is Tropic’s real motivation. Women farmers are the backbone of Rwanda. We are a country and economy based on agriculture, with women shouldering the majority of the work.

After the devastating Rwandan genocide in 1994, many women were left widowed with children. They are the ones who have rebuilt our country and continue to do so.

At Tropic Coffee, we work with over 3,000 farmers growing coffee on small, individual blocks of land. More than half are women. When we buy our harvested coffee cherries, we empower women farmers with high incomes and more opportunities for themselves and their families.

It also inspires them to continue to produce the best quality Arabica cherries. In turn, Tropic Coffee delivers a premium product to its customers, and the proceeds return to the smallholder women farmers.
